“ | Well, this one never came out, even though it came out, you know... This song is dope. | ” |
– Kendall Schmidt about "Featuring You", during a 2017 Facebook livestream[1] |
"Featuring You" is an unreleased demo recorded by Kendall Schmidt and Logan Henderson, for Big Time Rush. The pair co-wrote the track with producers Damon Sharpe and Jeremy Skaller, for their third studio album, 24/seven, in November 2012.[2] The track was leaked onto the Internet in January 2013, leading to denunciation from the band. While the song did not make the final track listing for 24/seven, the band members have spoken positively of the song, mentioning and playing it during livestreams and other informal settings.
Background[]
Big Time Rush recorded over 75 songs for their third album, 24/seven, at least 50 of which they co-wrote themselves.[3] The bulk of the sessions took place between November and December 2012, when the band "flew in" many songwriters and producers, most of which they had collaborated with on previous albums.[4][5] Among them were producers Damon Sharpe and Jeremy Skaller, with whom Schmidt and Henderson also wrote the album track "24/seven".
In January 2013, the song was leaked onto the Internet, prompting a response from Logan Henderson, who tweeted "Hate to see the hard work I've spent at the studio making new music get leaked....sucks when people steal stuff".[6] The leaked demo, titled "btr_featuring_you-ofm_demo_mix-3.mp3", appears to have been produced by Orange Factory Music.[citation needed] Schmidt "raps" on the bridge of the track.[7] The song was partly played by Schmidt during a 2017 episode of his livestream and podcast series, Koffee Time with Kendall,[1] and by BTR during a 2022 TikTok live.[8]
